SAC-REC TABLE TENNIS CLUB

Come Play! Come Play! Come Play!

Text Box: 2008 Sacramento Fall Open - Nov. 8, 2008:
Text Box: Congratulations to Barney Reed as he defeated Steven Wang to win his second consecutive Sacramento Tournament. Rackets were tested to make sure players in the Open complied with the new rules and restrictions concerning glue. There were no problems as good sportsmanship prevailed and the focus was on the outstanding table tennis, whether playing or spectating! In the semi-finals Reed beat Freddie Gabriel, and Steven Wang got past Zhe Hao Wang, as the favorites didn't suffer the upset losses as in some of our recent tournaments! Text Box: 2009 Sacramento Winter Open - March 14, 2009:
Text Box: The Sacramento Winter Open attracted 140 players of all levels to Inderkum High School's two gyms for a full day of exhilarating play. Rating events started as low as the U-200 (Beginner) and every 150 points, all the way up to the U-2350 (Expert Class). Not only did the participants appreciate the amount of Round Robin events and low entry fees, but they also expressed gratitude for how smooth the tourney ran, and for the outstanding play of our Open Division Final Four Round Robin where Steven Wang proved to be too much for Trevor Runyan, Arthur Breton, and Dora Kurimay. Dora did the best, forcing Steven to a 5th and deciding game! She's heading back to Hungary now, so we wish her the best and thank her for bringing such wonderful play and personality to our recent tournaments. Special thanks to George Seicean and his boys Nathan and Matthew for their hard work loading tables, and for all who helped on the set-up and clean-up. Here are the final results:

Text Box: Arthur Breton defeated Anh Nguyen, who pulled off an upset by knocking off top seed Shashin Shodhan in the semi's, to win the the Open Singles Title and the $500 first prize! The tournament featured all round robin events in both singles and doubles allowing all particpants to play, play, and play some more, on the 33 tables set up on two basketball courts and other parts of the venue.

Special thanks to the folks at the Folsom Sports Complex for all their support, and to Jian Zhuang who runs the Folsom TT Club for helping us to obtain this fine facility as we had been having trouble getting our normal school gyms due to the economic problems. Other contributors who must be mentioned are Scott Leung, (Thanks for the awesome PA System!), and Allan Ding, (Thanks for your truck!). The help of these and many others made for one wonderful event! J.Z. (Jian Zhuang), was surely proud of not only his own play, 2nd in U-2350 and 1st in Hardbat, but also that of the juniors he has been training; namely Michael Wong, Aiden Friend, and Brian Zhuang, as shown by the results!
Text Box: 2010 Sacramento Winter Open - January 30, 2010:
Text Box: Thanks to Rosemont High School for coming thru for us at the last minute!

Barney Reed (of Ping Pong Playa fame) battled back from 2-0 down in the semi's against Maggie Tian, and then held off a determined Rocky Wang to win the Open Singles Event!  Rocky, who has been training hard, got past Trevor Runyan in the other Semi.  Robert Shanazari took out tournament director James Therriault in the U-2300 semi's in route to winning the event over Jeff Xiao who was playing well in reaching two finals! Our Iron Man Award goes to Nash Darukhanawala as he played non-stop, except for a quick massage from his wife, in reaching the finals in both Doubles and Singles!  All finalists are noted below:
