Text Box: >>>$13,000 CIRCUIT TOURNAMENT SERIES<<<

Introducing the new exciting Sacramento Table Tennis $13K Circuit Tournament Series! This circuit consists of our four yearly tournaments - the Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall Opens. All four of these are now 3 Star tournaments and each carries a total prize purse of $3000! In addition, the player who accumulates the most circuit points for the year will also win the $1000 bonus prize, bringing the total circuit payout for the year to $13,000! Here’s how it works: Gain circuit points by placing in the top 8 in the Open Singles (rating of 2050 or higher only) event. For the first three tournaments, the points are awarded as follows: 1st place = 4 points, 2nd = 3 pts, 3rd/4th = 2 pts, and 5th-8th = 1 pt. The fourth and final tournament of the year, the Fall Open, awards DOUBLE points as follows: 1st = 8 pts, 2nd = 6 pts, 3rd/4th = 4 pts, and 5th-8th = 2 pts. This will give more players a chance at the $1000 bonus prize. If two or more players are tied for 1st then the prize will be divided evenly. We will be posting all the points standings here along with the tournament results. The series kicked off at the 2008 Sacramento Winter Open and here are the current standings after two of the four events:
Text Box: 2008 Circuit Points Standings as of 6/2/08:

4 pts = Dora Kurimay, Steven Wang, Jiaqi Zheng
3 = Martin Kosan, Khoa Nguyen
2 = Freddie Gabriel, Michael Hyatt, Hailong Shen
1 = James Guo, Ben Johnson, Bunny Lee, William Lin, Auria Malek, Thilina Piyadasa

Text Box: 2007 Sacramento Summer Open - August 25, 2007
Text Box: An inspired Avishy Schmidt (maybe it was the shaved head, or possibly the recent coaching tip he picked up from Stellan Bengston), won the Sacramento Summer Open and the $500 first prize by upsetting James Guo in the Open Final. The underdog Schmidt rallied back from a 9-5 deficit to win game one. With Guo now somewhat nervous, Schmidt was able to take the match by nailing six straight winners to close out the decisive fourth game by the score of 11-8, despite the 250+ points in rating differential! Tuan Le from Los Angeles also had a strong showing, by taking the U-2300 and U-2400, as well as reaching the Open Semi-Finals. Other double winners include Juliane Tran, who took first place in the U-250 and the U-125 Events, and Wesley Boot, who won both the U-1000 and U-1150. Other highlights include the crowd pleasing play of young phenom Sylvan Guo who made three finals! She won the U-2000 over Sonny Baboo but was stopped in the U-1900 Final by Ankur Patel and in the U-2150 Final by Parry Husbands. Full Results are as follows:

Text Box: Congratulations to underdogs Dora Kurimay and Martin Kosan!

Despite several players rated over 2400, our 6th and 7th seeded players Dora Kurimay and Martin Kosan emerged to reach the Open Final. Dora Kurimay took the title in an exciting 5 game crowd pleasing match over Martin Kosan. Both players showed remarkable steady play in getting past more powerful opponents. With the fight and heart of a champion, Dora came from behind in most all of her matches. Incredibly, in the U-2450 she was down 2 games to zero and match point to Mike Dewynter, James Therriault, and Spencer Chase in three consecutive matches before falling in the U-2450 Final to Trevor Runyan. In the Open semifinals, Dora defeated 2nd seeded Michael Hyatt who made his return to tournament play; while Martin upset the top seeded Jiaqi Zheng.
